FSIP Services – manufacturing processes

Last week we discussed the advantages of outsourcing manufacturing programs and how FSIP fulfills these expectations. One key element, that I can’t help but reiterate is trust, working with a reputable manufacturer. FSIP is a premier Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider established in 1968. That means we have close to 55-years of experience. We continue to hone our expertise to bring you more and better services while supporting an array of industries like material handling, agriculture, golf, boating, mining, construction, ground support equipment, and the electric vehicle market, to name just a few.

This week, we’ll take a closer look at FSIP’s essential manufacturing processes.

  • Box Build Assembly
  • Coil & Bobbin Winding
  • Cable Assemblies & Wire Harnesses
  • Metal Machining

Electronic Box Build Assembly (AKA System Integration)

Box Build may seem like a simple concept, but its an integral part of the production process for many products. It may include full or sub-system electrical or mechanical components and take various forms like build-to-order (BTO), configure-to-order (CTO), software configuration/update loading, quality testing, and packaging. A Box Build provider can be as integrated into your process/product as much or as little as you desire.

Let’s take a quick walk through what you can expect from FSIP:

  • Design Assistance
    • FSIP engineers are available to consult with you to help design or optimize your component/product. This can include sourcing raw materials, developing the electrical systems, maximizing the BOM or manufacturing/assembly process, or developing testing protocols and procedures.
  • Documented Processes / Project Management
    • FSIP Manufacturing Team works with you to define your expectations; and use our experience to advise best practices. All processes are documented step by step starting with the BOM and component supplier(s), workspace and project flow through quality testing, reporting, and packaging.  We are ISO 9001:2015 Certified as well as observe and practice IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-620 manufacturing standards.
  • Quality Assurance
    • The bottom line, you dictate your parts quality standards. FSIP partners with you to meet and exceed those standards. From program documentation, prototype qualification, to testing procedures; quality is built into our processes at every stage of the assembly.

Flight System Industrial Products offers turnkey manufacturing elements — design, sourcing, production, and assembly for electro-mechanical, and sub-level products built to your specification requirements. We can help improve your operational efficiencies while reducing production costs and maintaining high-quality control. Sounds like a win-win-win!

Coil & Bobbin Winding

With over 20-years of experience, we’ve found that there is no one size fits all solution for coil and bobbin windings. With our in-house fixturing capabilities and winding equipment, we’re able to scale from design to production and from trial to commercial rollout. FSIP specializes in small to medium-sized production runs. We work with a wide variety of small to large gauge wire and can adjust for diameter and bobbin length requirements. Contact our Manufacturing Team to discuss your requirements. We have a team of Engineers on staff to help solve design issues. Custom design and prototyping are just part of what we do best.

 Cable Assemblies & Wire Harnesses

Cable assemblies and wire harnesses are essential components that delivers power and transfer information within electrical systems. They are typically custom to a design. They are a perfect fit into Flight System Industrial Products manufacturing services offering. Like Box Build Assemblies and Coil/Bobbin Winding, we offer engineering design services, prototype to medium-sized production runs, and quality testing to meet your performance and application demands.

By controlling the sourcing and production process in-house, FSIP can ensure consistent high-quality and reliability with minimal error rates.  Again, we are ISO 9001:2015 Certified as well as observe and practice IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-620 manufacturing standards.

Metal Machining

Metal machining may not be the first on our list of manufacturing services, but it is integral to the prototyping and design services we offer. FSIP procures metal material in extruded, bar, or plate form, and machines to your specifications. We use the latest technology in vertical CNC, spindle drill presses, lathes, and more. All products are quality & tolerance inspected using equipment like optical comparators.

Summary

There are a lot of different processes and skills that reside behind the title “Manufacturing”. I’ve just touched the surface. In each of the four key areas Box Build Assembly, Coil/Bobbin Winding, Cable Assembly/Wire Harness Assembly and Metal Machining, I hope you’re starting to see a common thread when working with FSIP. No matter which area of our business, we can partner, consult, engineer, streamline, and install quality at every stage of your project. We’re able to work with you on a mutually exclusive item or as part of the larger project, FSIP is here to support your business.
